Find a good book for your daily sofa-to-bed commute
You know what never goes out of fashion? A good book. Perfect for a relaxing moment spent by yourself (if you can find one) – what better way to take your mind off the real word, than by losing yourself in a fictional one.
And while you may not be able to go out and rifle through dusty old bookshops at the moment, there are other places you can find those hidden gems.
Amazon: Prime Reading
If you’re an Amazon Prime member, you can choose from over a thousand book titles, magazines and comics to read for free. You don’t even need a Kindle device to enjoy Prime Reading – download the Kindle app on iOS or Android and get access to your books wherever you are.
Kindle Unlimited

Amazon are currently offering a two month free trial for Kindle Unlimited, so there’s really nothing to stop you from giving it a try.
Audible
Sometimes it’s nicer to have a story read to you. Maybe you like to read in the bath, but don’t want to have to worry about getting a book wet. Or perhaps you like to hear an autobiography read by the actual person who wrote it. Well, Audible is one of the go-to places for audiobooks – and they offer a 30 day free trail
E-book libraries
If you want to look off the beaten track, there are a few e-book libraries that have huge collections of free or discounted books for you to read. Many Books has over 50,000 free e-books – from romance to horror, and everything in between. Or you could try Project Gutenberg, a library of over 60,000 publications, with a focus on older works for which copyright has expired.
Blinkist
If you’re not a big reader, but still want to learn about the key ideas explored in best-selling non-fiction, then Blinkist is for you. You’ll get the key takeaways from a book, distilled into bitesize text and audio, ready for you to digest whenever you’re ready. You can also try Blinkist free for 7 days.
Goodreads
Not sure what to read next? Goodreads is a social networking app for book lovers. It’s a great place to find your next favourite novel, self-help book or short story. Read reviews and get insightful recommendations based on the genres you like.
For those of you who can’t live without the feel of a substantial hardback in your hands, or miss the smell of a brand new book, don’t forget that while you may not be able to get out to a bookshop at the moment, many may still be offering delivery. Companies such as Waterstones and Amazon are still taking online orders (though they be slower than usual).
So what are you waiting for? Sit down with a cup of tea, put your feet up and lose yourself in a great story!
