The SMARTY guide to getting outside

2020’s been a challenging year, but we want to help you make the most of these last rain-free* summer days. So we’ve pulled together a list of fun experiences you can safely enjoy in the great outdoors.

Outdoor cinema

Why not take in a film at one of the many outdoor cinema experiences around the country. Whether you choose to watch a movie floating down the Thames or from the comfort of your own car, there are plenty of unique options to choose from… including, if you can wait till Halloween, Spooktacular drive-in movies at Thorpe Park.

Paddleboarding

A fun activity for the whole family, stand up paddleboarding is a great sport that also lets you take in the great outdoors. It’s low-impact and stress-relieving, and there are plenty of lovely rivers, lakes, and canals to explore around the UK. Check out the Canal River Trust for hints, tips and route suggestions.

National Trust

A lot of the UK’s parks, gardens and nature reserves are now back open, so it’s a great time to get out and visit new places – the National Trust is the perfect starting point when researching your next amazing outdoor adventure.

Go Ape

If you’re ready to do something active, why not head to the treetops? Go Ape is reopening this Autumn, offering a range of activities for staycationers and after-school sessions. You can find the nearest forest to ‘Go Ape’ in on their website.

Comedy, Music and Theatre

While so much of the arts and entertainment industry has been put on hold, there are some COVID-friendly comedy shows, music gigs and in-car festivals where you can get your fix. If you need help finding something great to do that’s in your area, we recommend a quick ‘Google’ search to show you the nearest adventures and experiences.

We hope you enjoy the rest of your summer.

*We cannot guarantee your days will be rain-free. This is the UK after all!
